I lost my innocence last week. A person I don’t know went out of their way to tell me I sucked. I got my first heckler.
It was inevitable, there is one in very crowd, and the internet is certainly that. The guy who’s soul contribution is, “You suck.”
My heckler commented on this article, in which I tell the story of how our first IVF Egg Retrieval went wrong because of a mistake I made, and what a terrible experience that was. In four poorly written sentences he claims that it is the time I spend writing this website which is the root cause of my error. Then, in conclusion, he calls me a girl for crying.
I began to explain the weakness of his argument, and I wrote some mean spirited quips picking on his poor grammar and excessive use of ALL CAPS and exclamation points, but I deleted it all. I decided to take the high ground. Then, I realized there is no fun in that for me, so I wrote my own four sentences.
The reason you think real men do not cry is because your father was emotionally detached. He didn’t want you, so he never said, “I love you.” Your feelings of inadequacy, and general tendency towards behaving like an ass, may stem from that, as any decent therapist can explain to you. Now run along, the grown ups are talking.

Ok, what a jerk 1st of all. It takes the balls of a real man to write about your mistake and share your heartache with all of us.
Sounds like the guy needs to get a life. Perhaps the time he spends trolling websites is the root cause of his
inadequacy.
Dude — seriously you went out to write an article on that? You have to learn to take criticism. He has a different point of view and expresses it in a different way. Who are you to judge that? You are the one sharing your life story, not him. What are you going to do write on a article on every person who doesn’t agree, or simply ask you to grow up! Not cool you talk about his family. Focus on yours. Sounds like you need to get a life…
Criticism is fine with me. Name calling is not. One expresses a difference of opinion, the other is a childish personal attack. I wrote a story about events in my life that were very sad. You can find fault with the way I wrote it, but not that I was sad. He wrote, “MAN UP!!!!“, which is not criticism, it is ridiculous braying.
Who am I to judge? The guy that runs this website. There is no shortage of places on the internet to write in ALL CAPS and follow it with lots of exclamation points. This is just not one of them.
Not cool to talk about his family. You do understand I have never met this anonymous man’s family. Right? I wrote a funny (I hope) jab that had all of the emotional impact of a “Your momma’s so fat joke”. I doubt he is reeling from the egregious injustice I have done him.
No, I am not going to write an article every time I get a heckler, nor will I respond personally to negative comments, but this was my first, it felt special, and I wanted to make a point. If you are going to have a war of words with me, you better bring your A game. In the future I will simply delete comments that encourage me to “grow up” and “get a life”, Dude.
People astound me. With no sense of irony at all Lisa 2 responded to the above comment by calling me a name and doing it in ALL CAPS punctuated by repeated exclamation points. To the surprise of no one but Lisa 2, I have deleted it.
Ha ha. This whole thing is horribly entertaining! Lisa2 has no idea who she’s dealing with, much like the original heckler! I love it. You go, dude.
[...] people I don’t know now read this site, and inevitably I will disagree with some of them. It happened recently, and I did not handle it appropriately, so I thought it would be more [...]
This is all so funny. But I have to agree with ‘The Heckler’ and ‘Lisa2′.
