A man hammering on the call button and pacing frantically provided me entertainment on my elevator ride today. The frequency or force with which you press a button in no way alters its behavior. The circuits, of course, do not care if you are in a hurry. They have no empathy for your situation. They are like every bureaucrats you have ever dealt with.

Your life is full of things beyond your control. It is important to recognize them when they arise and react accordingly. Until someone invents urgency sensing buttons a little perspective and patience is needed.
Perspective identifies life’s trivial inconveniences for what they are. Patience helps with what is important but outside your sphere of influence. Action that generates stress and anger but no other observable outcome is futile.
My fellow elevator traveler and I arrived at the same place at the same time. He arrived heated and upset. I arrived relaxed and amused. The only difference was how we approached the trip.

That’s hilarious! J has been saying this same thing for years. He loves to watch pedestrians who want to cross the street – really, really want to cross the street – and somehow think that repeatedly, and with great urgency, pressing the walk button will make it happen faster for them.
