When I Grow Up

I sent an email out to everyone I know last week publicizing this site. The email had strong undertones indicating I was looking for something else to do with my life. Within 12 hours of sending the email I was fired from my regular job. I do not really believe in destiny, but I do believe that how you react to events in your life is a choice. I am a lemonade from lemons kind of a guy.

I was fired on Friday morning. By Saturday an idea for a lemonade recipe had started to take shape. I am pretty excited about it. I am calling it The Project.

Yo. I think you should try something where you work with kids. My personal favourite age group is teenagers, but any kids will do. Every school would love to have a guy who is good at Math and Science sign up as a tutor. I have a shit load of resources you could use. Or you could start a wicked tutoring website. I have so many good ideas it’s scary. Tim thinks you should read “oh, the places you’ll go” by Dr. Seuss. I agree. That is a good freaking book.

Ok, revision on my previous comment. Maybe you should make a point of working with people of all ages. Babies, toddlers, elementary, preteen, teenagers, adults and seniors. That would make for some interesting insights.

Good suggestions. I have always considered being a highschool teacher. I’ll phone some local highschools and see if I can do any tutoring.

I always wanted to run some sort of adventure group. Teaching rock climbing or Kayaking or adventure tours. You live in the best place to do stuff like that. All sorts of adventures would be great on the island. That was one of the things me and Ivan were looking into doing if we moved out there.

Oh, and Kris gave me a great book for my birthday. It’s about Randy Pusch and his last lecture. It’s more about his philosophies on life. He did some really cool shit and lived every day like it might be his last, long before he knew it would. Good book

If money and being away from your partner isn’t an issue, I’d suggest travelling–someplace you haven’t been. Maybe the camino de santiago in Spain if you’re into something like that, or trek through Guatemala or Nepal. Or Turkey. So many places to choose from… Time to think in a different context and finding out about other people has inspired me and given me the opportunity to face some fears, potentials, limitations and realities about myself…. Have fun with whatever you decide to do with your time!

Travel is an excellent idea! It very well may figure into my journey, but I don’t know in what form yet.
